Friday 25th April
Jana Varga
David Ferris
Wearing a mixture of influences like classical music, songwriters like Janis Ian, James Taylor and the well-traveled folk of Paul Simon, Jana has her own distinct voice that continues to evolve. Born into a musical family and raised on the green outskirts of Bratislava (Slovakia), Jana was immersed in music from a young age. As a child, she was already performing traditional Slovak songs and went on to study classical music in Austria and France. In 2014 she was to become a flautist in Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Czechia when she decided to pursue the career of a singer songwriter and moved to London. Currently, Jana is making a regular guest appearance on the critically acclaimed ‘Joni Reimagined’ show (homage to songs of Joni Mitchell) where she has recorded and continues to perform live with platinum selling artist Rumer. Jana’s music transcends boundaries and takes audiences on a timeless journey. With a genuine passion for storytelling, she weaves rich narratives into every note, evoking emotions and connecting listeners to the heart and soul of her music.
David Ferris is a pianist based in London, active as both a bandleader and sideman on the jazz scene, alongside work as an educator, composer/arranger and recording keyboard player. He graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015, and was taught by musicians including Mark Turner, Dave Holland and John Taylor. David was the recipient of the 2016 Help Musicians UK Development Award, which led to the release of his septet’s critically acclaimed debut album, Alphabets, in February 2018. The album was toured with Arts Council support across the country.

Jon Walsh
Jon Walsh is the vocalist and lead guitarist in his own band – The Jon Walsh Blues Dogs, which enjoys a reputation as being one of the most talented real blues bands on the UK Blues circuit. But Jon is also an exceptional solo acoustic/slide guitarist and singer.
Jon’s style covers a broad spectrum of acoustic blues ranging from delta slide on Dobro and National guitars and Atlanta slide on twelve-string guitar, through to folk, country, Piedmont, Gospel and contemporary blues picked on six string flat tops. Jon’s singing style can be passionate, emotive and aggressive at times but can also be soul-searching and introspective.
Jon feels that it is a bluesman’s obligation to keep the blues alive by performing the classics of days gone by and also to keep adding to the blues by contributing new songs to the genre. So, his set will include a number of self-penned songs, which are in many ways personal in that they often tell of his own feelings and experiences.
When asked about his influences Jon sited Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, Tampa Red and Son House .… an awesome combination!
